Update: web and desktop versions

Reloading Studio, Reloaded.

I’m thrilled to announce that Reloading Studio is alive and well and has gone through some significant changes to better serve its users. As some of you may have guessedโ€ฆ To keep up with my own commitment to innovation and to provide a better user experience, Reloading Studio is being migrated to an online subscription application.

I understand that this is not what some of you wanted to hear, but the current model wasn’t working. I made this (very hard) decision after careful consideration and for a few reasons. I discuss it in this post (Subscription WTF).

All existing users have been imported into the the software and all you have to do is reset your password from the Reloading Studio login form.

Where is my invite?

An email has been sent to all paid users. It’s a quick update referencing this article. Just in case you didn’t get it, I suggest checking your junk or spam folders.

Where is everything at?

  • Can I register right now (for new users)? No.
I am currently onboarding existing Reloading Studio desktop users, so general registrations are disabled for a few weeks (for an early invite feel free to get in touch directly). I am expecting to open general registrations in the first week August-2023.
  • How do I get an account (for Reloading Studio desktop users)? You already have one.
If you are a paid desktop app user; or you were sent an individual invite, than you already have an account. All existing users have been imported to Reloading Studio (web). All you have to do is reset your password from the Reloading Studio login form using your original activation email address.
  • Can I use it now? Yes.
Absolutely. I have been using it for a while, prior to onboarding users.
  • How much? Would you buy me a cup of coffee?
If you get value out of this, then it’s no more than buying me a thank you cup of (cheapest) coffee once a month. Details can be found on the main website page.
  • Will you stop Desktop support? Yes.
I plan to stop supporting the desktop version of Reloading Studio sometime in 2024. this means troubleshooting, maintenance, new operating system version support, etc. However, I will try my best to support any ‘re-activation’ (registration) issues for longer.
  • Can I move my data across, easily? Sort of, but not yet.
Reloading Studio (web) look and feels similar and you (the desktop user) will instinctively know what to do. However, under the hood it has a completely new architecture and data model. There is no direct migration path. It’s a bad situation that I am trying to remedy, but it’s something that had to be done for future maintenance. For existing user, if your data volume is excessive – please let me know. I can take a look at your database (backup) and see what I could automate to make the transition a lot smoother. This will likely include components and firearms. However, recipe data model is very different and will need to be re-entered manually. If you don’t have a lot of data to work with, then I wholeheartedly encourage you to do this manually to get some hands-on experience with the new application, otherwise let me know.

What’s next?

  • I am currently working on the Dashboard feature, creating new documentation and video tutorials.
  • Application already has more features and improved old/original features that I couldn’t get around to in the past. Beyond that, there are a lot of features already planned and scheduled for development. I will write about them as they are made available.

Thank You!
